The South Hills Neighborhood Council was formed in 1999 and certified in 2002. The Council is a citywide (Beat 35Y) effort to bring together community members, merchants, and other organizations to address concerns that affect our neighborhoods. The Council meets 5 times a year on the 4th Wednesday of the month (every other month) to express neighborhood concerns and effective ways to access City and County services that can address these concerns. Council meetings are held at Divine Mercy Church (St. Paschal’s, 3700 Dorsia Ave, Oakland.)
The Council organizes the above meetings. We also encourage our residents to host National Night Out parties on the first Tuesday in August. The Council has had the following successes since its inception:
Cell tower installed on Golf Links
Assisted in closing a Group Home that had illegal activities
Graffiti abatement done by residents
Planted daffodils as a part of a beautification project
Participated in Earth Day events
Participated in auto theft prevention through a Club giveaway
Participated in East Oakland street clean up
Worked with the City to have “No Parking” signs and tree trunk barriers installed along Skyline Blvd.
